about

October 2023 will mark the release of ‘Feed The Birds’, the first single from in-demand jazz vocalist James Hudson’s second album - set for release in spring 2024. This first single gives us a peek behind the curtain at this exciting project, which has been in the making for well over a year.

A unique song choice for a jazz artist, ‘Feed The Birds’ was written by the Sherman Brothers for Walt Disney’s 1964 motion-picture Mary Poppins featuring Julie Andrews. Hudson’s bold reimagining brings a brand new perspective to this nostalgic song. The arrangement takes it to a mysterious and captivating place, whilst still maintaining the uplifting character of this timeless classic. This is delivered through James Hudson’s emotive vocal performance which is both intimate and engaging - alongside the track’s crescendo which features a roaring Alto Saxophone solo from co-arranger Tom Smith, accompanied by enigmatic playing of the 5-piece string section underneath.

This second album is an ambitious project which features a larger ensemble made up of top UK musicians - including strings, horns, vibraphone and much more. This is a big statement by James Hudson, driving his artistic career to the next level and further honing his own distinctive sound that can be heard in this single ‘Feed The Birds’.
